AN AUSPICIOUS AUGUST 2022, my fellow gifted thrifters and thrifty gifters!  It’s the third and last month of Summer, Av and Elul of 5782 (Jewish year), Fat Liberation Month!  Month of Lughnasadh, Lammas, Lighthouse Day, Tu B’Av (Jewish Valentines Day), and Trans Flag Day!  Alas, also Tisha B’Av (Jewish fast day).

Nu, normally – if one can even use that word anymore! – I would be talking to you about lighthouses this month.  And I have found a lot of lovely lighthouse-themed items on Goodwill of Greater Washington’s ShopGoodwill.com site lately.  But, I have something even better for you.

Last month, I joined my Finding Your Good family at the North Rockville store for an exclusive tour, mini shopping trip, and thrift brainstorming session!  That’s when this great photo of me was taken.  I didn’t intend my thrifted outfit to match the store’s décor, but I’m very pleased that it did.

And it was so good to finally meet my fellow FYG bloggers in person!  I’m also very impressed by what we learned during the behind-the-scenes tour.

Not surprisingly, I found several items to take home during our special shopping spree.  Let’s look at my favorites….

How much does my lifelong reader and writer self love this book bag?  Do you know how long it’s taken me to thrift a book-print item?  And this one is in the bisexual flag colors!  Too, purple is my favorite color, and I didn’t have a hat in that color.  The “K” is for a display about my family in my home office/studio.  Now I need a letter “D”.

Yes, four seashore items!  And if you know me here, and/or elsewhere, you know how much my family and I love the shore.  I especially love and identify with mermaids.  And this mug is in the trans flag colors!

It’s Chrismukkah in August!  And I’m a Jew and Jewscopalian who celebrates Christmas and Hanukkah.  Nu, how could I resist this?

I found a few other things, during this field trip – but I can’t show you those, because they’re going to be gifts.

After our shopping, we all went out to lunch together, for the aforementioned brainstorming sess.  I ordered the smoked salmon sandwich, and it was superb.  Ah, the food of my people!

I also picked up some brownies for my spouse, because they’re one of her very favorite baked goods.

Are you following DC Goodwill and Finding Your Good everywhere online?  Have you been to the North Rockville store yet?  As you can see, you really must do both!  For one thing, you don’t want to miss our celebration of National Thrift Shop Day this week.  We even have gifts for you!

But, I also don’t want you to miss the last of your Summer.  So off you go.  Just remember to meet me back here next month – we’ll be talking about thrifting Judaica, to celebrate the start of the Jewish High Holidays / Holy Days (Rosh Hashanah, Jewish New Year, starts September 25th)!
