If you haven’t been keeping up with what’s going on up in New York over the past week, don’t worry! I’ve got a full summary of what’s been trending on the runways, dear readers. I know it’s hard to think about what we’ll be wearing this upcoming fall but hey, if we get the trends down months in advance, that gives us ample amounts of time to snag them all from Goodwill, right?
I’ll start with a favorite trend: mixed prints. I grapple with this in my daily wardrobe – I tend to lean on the safe side when it comes to mixing patterns. The Fall 2015 shows make it clear that it will be totally fine to live on the edge. According to designers like Carolina Herrara and Diane Von Furstenburg, we’re going to see a lot of mixing and far less matching. I am loving this style for its marked uniqueness and ease of wear. We’ve all got a closet full of mixed prints, so it’s possible we’ll be able to pull this trend off without running to the store to purchase something new! Here are a few of my favorite pattern mixes so far in Fashion Week.

Along the same lines of the liveliness of mixed prints was a new, unusual fall color: cobalt blue. One of my personal favorite shades to wear regardless of skin tone or hair color, cobalt has a freshness about it that brings life to any outfit. Lines like DKNY featured this color as a solid, shining star in coats, pants and sweaters. I loved seeing a stray from the typical “darkness” of these shows. We see so much gray, black and brown during fall fashion week!

And finally, a favorite of mine but definitely a widely debated style: the turtleneck. This style has been around off and on since colonial times. And, as an industry, we’ve probably changed our minds about it more than any of us care to count. The turtle-neckline made appearances in several fashions. From a ruffled style in the Altuzarra show to a sleek, mock-neck style in Victoria Beckham’s line, its undeniable that a modest neckline will have a place in our fall 2015 closets.
