HAPPY HANUKKAH 5784 AND HOLIDAYS 2023, my fellow gifted thrifters and thrifty gifters!

May you have a deeply discounted December. First month of Winter, Kislev, and Tevet of 5784.  Month of World AIDS Day, my 8th annual Mycroft’s Menorah Mishigas, Hanukkah, Advent, the Winter Solstice, Christmas, Chrismukkah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Eve.  My family and I primarily celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, and Chrismukkah.

Nu, what is my Menorah Mishigas?  Every December for the last seven years, I’ve shared my meshuggah menorah collection and more on my social media (Facebook, Twitter/X, and Instagram).  And this is the third December I’ll be sharing them here at Finding Your Good, as part of my monthly guest blogging.

I have more than 30 Hanukkah menorahs (aka hanukkiahs/hanukkiyot)!  All of them thrifted!  FOURTEEN of them from Goodwill Of Greater Washington!  And I’ve seen and been tempted by many more menorahs at Goodwills, online and off.  I’ve also thrifted a few Temple menorahs in my time.

Here at the 14 menorahs, I’ve thrifted from DC Goodwill – mostly in person at the great location right here in Gaithersburg, a few at Shop Goodwill.

Here’s The One That Got Away.

Well, one of the ones that did. My editor spotted it at the Goodwill here in Gaithersburg in January.  But I got there too late to get it.  I hope it found a good home.

Here’s an image from a DC Goodwill Shop Goodwill auction for a lot of SEVEN menorahs!  It closed in June, so I can’t link you, but I still want you to see it.  Especially as these are originals or reproductions of some very old and wonderful styles of menorahs.  They’re intended for oil, but you can use other lights as well.  They can sit on a surface, or be hung on a wall.  I very much want to add one of these to my collection.

Here are three menorahs that were auctioned off by DC Goodwill in September, October, and December (just last week).  And I was tempted by all of them.  But not surprisingly, I was outbid.

Again, happy Hanukkah and holidays!  Nu, thrift your gifts, post about them, and tag DC Goodwill and Finding Your Good – but wait until it won’t spoil the surprise.  And don’t forget to put meeting me back here next month on your 2024 calendar.
