To ensure a successful visit to a Goodwill, I try to bring the following tools and resources to help with my thrift hunt. What’s missing from the list? What do you bring to help you find the Goodwill gold?
- Reusable bottle: Staying hydrated is key to keep you going during your thrift adventures.
- Magnifying glass: You can also use Zoom on your phone, which can help you spot small signatures and read small fonts.
- Phone: This is a no-brainer! It includes a Zoom, flashlight, internet for research, texting for friend advice, and a camera—and it should be kept charged, too!
- Snacks: Things like bars are easy to eat and easy to clean-up. No crumbs or Cheeto dust fingers with a yummy protein bar!
- Magnet: For testing metals on trays and jewelry!
- Measuring tape: Take home the furniture you know fits in your home by employing one of these!
- Payment options: Cash, card…you never know when there’s a tech issue!
- Hand sanitizer: Enough said!
- Tide stain pen: This can help test stains on clothing pieces to ensure you’re buying items you know you can wash easily.
- Reusable bag: Or you can buy one at Goodwill for 99 cents! Save the planet and opt for reuse.
- Headphones: I see some shoppers jamming to music while thrifting at the bins.
- Fanny pack: For easy shopping. I find it annoying to carry a big purse when thrifting and navigating a store. My whole collection was thrifted from local Goodwills across the area!
- Shopping list: Guide your Goodwill trip with a focused list for efficient shopping. This is handy when you’re short on time and don’t have time to explore for hours.
