I’m launching a new series of posts today! You all know my love for putting together polished looks on a budget; from my daily outfit Instagrams to My Favorite Thing (From Goodwill) posts, you know I love seeing the products of my savvy Goodwill shopping. Well, now I want to see yours! I’m challenging you – my dear and loyal readers, to put together your best look for under $20 from all pieces you’ve found from Goodwill. If you’re feeling game, send me an email at fashion@dcgoodwill.org and I’ll give you the deets on how you can hop on board this frugal fiesta!

First up in the $20 Goodwill Challenge is one of my favorite anonymous Instagrammers, @gotitatgoodwill!

As much as I love thrift store shopping, I was a little intimidated by this challenge.  Most of my wardrobe is from Goodwill, but I usually mix in things I’ve gotten at regular retail shops to make a complete look.  I’ve never tried to create an entire outfit where everything I was wearing was thrifted, but I knew it could be done.

I decided to look at dresses first because they’re my favorite and was thrilled to find this maxi dress with the tags still on it!  I love wearing maxi dresses in the summer because they are so easy and comfortable but make you look completely put together.  With about $10 left, it was on to shoes.  Since I had settled on a summer dress, I zeroed in on sandals and loved these Madden Girls from the moment I saw them.  The color palate means I’ll get a lot of use out of them and the wedges are the perfect height to be stylish but not uncomfortable.  Fifteen dollars down and five to go, it was time to tackle accessories.  If you follow me on Instagram, or read my last guest post, you know that I think an outfit isn’t complete without some kind of accessory.  Lucky for me, there was a basket of bracelets at the counter that were all $0.99 each!  I loved these contrasting wood colors and how they tied into to the shoes I bought. I had just enough to cover tax, so it was time to check out and head home.

I’m really happy with my outfit because it not only looks great, but it’s full of pieces that I’ll be able to mix and match all year long!

Awesome job, @gotitatgoodwill! You’re $20 outfit has me aching for spring.
