A meaningful March 2026 to you, my fellow gifted thrifters and thrifty gifters!  First month of Spring, Adar and Nisan of 5786, Women’s / Irish / Long CoViD Month.  Month of the Disability Day Of Mourning, Women’s Day, Daylight Saving Time, Purim, Pi(e) Day, the Ides of March, Long CoViD Day, Saint Patrick’s Day, Eid al-Fitr, the Spring Equinox, Maryland Day, and the Trans Day Of Visibility (TDOV).

As much as I love DC Goodwill, and indeed because of that, I like to shop at Goodwill when I travel.  And when I visit family in the Minneapolis area, we donate to and shop at Goodwill Minnesota (the Apple Valley location).  During my October visit, I found:

  • The Chrismukkah cards I showed you in my December post, which I did send to friends and family
  • A wearable plush mermaid tail with sequins and silver (so I can cosplay as Mercroft)
  • A Vera Bradley hanging travel organizer in a seashore print
  • A stained “glass” panel depicting dolphins kissing under the sun and clouds with a rainbow, shells and scales (yes, it reminded me of Lisa Frank)
  • A plastic lizard skeleton to join the others in my Halloween decor (I love lizards)
  • A Halloween gift for my spooky spouse – two dinner plates, one with jack o’lanterns and the other with spider webs

I also spotted these seashore items.  “She sells seashells by the seashore”, and Goodwill MN sells them by ten thousand lakes (MN is called the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and is home to even more lakes than that!).

A star of the sea in the Star of the North (MN’s motto is L’Étoile du Nord), and one of the Spring visitors to the Land of Sky Blue Waters (another of MN’s nicknames).

I almost bought this sandcastle, but I didn’t want to be too…nauti(cal).

I’m named after Sherlock Holmes’ brother Mycroft, so I’m always pleased to see an item from our fandom.

Nu, March really is coming into the DMV like a lion this year, isn’t it?  I hope it leaves much more like a lamb – including so it doesn’t interfere with our thrifting.  Meet me back here next month, in April, when I’ll be talking about Judaica, for Pesach (Passover).
