Shana tova (good year) and a September of savings to you, my fellow gifted thrifters and thrifty gifters! It’s the first month of Fall 2025, Elul and Tishrei of 5785, Bisexual and Latinx and Deaf Month. Month of Labor Day, Star Trek Day, the anniversary of 9/11, the September Equinox, Rosh Hashanah, and Bisexual Day and Week.
Yes, the Jewish High Holy Days / Holidays begin this month, with Rosh Hashanah, Jewish New Year – 5785 will end and 5786 will begin. Nu, as is also tradition, we’re going to look at some Judaica, Jewish art and ritual objects, here today. I love and collect it (join me here and on my social media in December for my TENTH ANNUAL Mycroft’s Menorah Mishigas!).
This year’s items are all jewelry. Nu, I like to put the Jew in jewelry. And all of these pieces are from Goodwill of Greater Washington’s Shop Goodwill site, over just the last few months (!).
First, three chais, the Hebrew word for “life, living, alive”. The last one is hanging out, pun intended, with a Magen David (Shield of King David, though it’s usually called his Star), which is my favorite Jewish symbol.
