Readers, I just came back from NYC the other weekend and gosh did I miss DC! That city is always hustling and bustling! Even the streets stay lively with action throughout the night.
Aside from the craziness of the city, one thing that separates DC from NYC is the fashion. In DC, I often stand out because of my love of bold colors and vintage gear. While walking the streets of NYC, I felt like I was in a parade amongst my people! EVERYONE has a unique sense of style, even at 5:00 in the morning on the weekday train.
However, out of all the inspiring style risks I took note of, there’s one trend that has me confused – rocking cropped pants WITH socks and sneakers or oxfords.
I understand this look could be great for the winter as it keeps your ankles warm while wearing cropped pants. But in the summer?! Doesn’t that get hot?!
I mostly saw guys sporting this look in the NYC streets, whether with sleek cropped pants or old pants they cut themselves. Either way, I was perplexed.
For the folks that cut their own pants…why?! Were they too long before? Did they make a mistake cutting them and didn’t want to waste the pair?! It’s street fashion, I tell ya!
My guess is this style originated in the 90’s, along with a lot of other trends that are coming back (chokers, ah!), but I haven’t been able to pinpoint when it really began.
I really don’t think I’ll be trying this look during the DC heat wave, but maybe in the winter?! What do you think on this trend? Is it practical or strange?
