A justice-pursuing July 2025, to you, my fellow gifted thrifters and thrifty gifters! Second month of Summer, Sivan and Tamuz of 5785 (Jewish months and year), Disability Pride Month.  Month of the Fourth Of July and NonBinary Day.

Regular readers know how much I love my local Goodwill, here in Gaithersburg, and why.  It’s a Greatwill!  And I can walk there from my house – but I usually can’t walk back, because I have too many great frugal finds to schlep on foot.  This visit was no exception; I got:

  • Two dresses – one in a seashells print (as you may have noticed, I love seashells).
  • EIGHT tops – one in a sailboat print.
  • A pair of pants (linen ones, which are a must for DMV Summers).
  • A pair of shorts – I think they’re actually PJs, but they’re so nice and cute that I can wear them outside of the house.
  • A skort – are skorts not one of the greatest style inventions ever?
  • Two skirts
  • The top of a tankini-style swimsuit – I was actually between swimsuits, and this top goes perfectly with the swim skirt I found during a previous visit to my Goodwill (!).
  • A scarf – never mind that the over-the-door shoe organizer I keep my scarves in is overflowing.
  • Two bags – one of which was another one of Goodwill’s new reusable shopping bags; do you have yours yet?
  • A zippered pouch (like for cosmetics) – with a seashell on it.
  • A bedsheet – in a mermaid print!  With seahorses, fish, coral, and bubbles.
  • 24 battery-operated LED votive candles
  • A set of four place card holders in the form of super realistic seashells – by Lilly Pulitzer, no less, and still in their original box.
  • TWO lay figures (the little jointed wood mannequins that artists use to draw people) – I have always wanted one for my home office/studio.

Here is my cart while I waited for my Lyft.  Yes, I love blue.  My favorite color is purple, and I also love green; peacock colors.

And now it’s…TIME…to look at some of the other seashore-themed items I spotted.

I would have bought this tee if it had fit.  I love the artwork it’s based on (Katsushika Hokusai’s 1831 woodblock print “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”), and I love sushi.  Does anyone here know what the characters say?

You can see one of the two lay figures I got in the photo of the fish tchotchke.

I would also have bought this dress if it had fit.  Yes, I was feeling…nauti(cal).  I’m sorry, but I saw that joke in a gift shop and I love it.

Writing this has made me want to take another trip to this location ASAP.  And when I do, you’ll hear about it here.  In the meantime, I’ll be talking about lighthouses, because August is Lighthouse Month.
