Bottle Brush Trees & China Pieces Shimmer Together as Holiday Décor

You’ll create seasonal delight when you upcycle bottle brush trees into Christmas decorations. Pair them with thrifted or Heirloom teacups and China pieces to create elegant vignettes which are sure to appeal to all generations.

Here’s how:

Step 1: Pick up holiday items at Goodwill

While the final days of the year are flying by, you still have time to pop over to your favorite Goodwill store to pick up items to give your home/apartment/place some festive flair.  During a recent excursion there, I came across ten or so bottle brush trees happily waiting for me in the store’s Seasonal section.  For less than a buck each (actually $.99!), it was a gift to be able to take them all home.

You are very likely to find items to help you decorate for the spirit of the season and are certain to come across some unique items to transform. With the low prices and great savings, you won’t be saying, “Ba Humbug!” at all!

Step 2: Joyfully choose your China pieces

Goodwill is very likely to have teacups, saucers and other parts of China sets to help you set the table for decorative success.  It seems that most of us don’t host dinners and special events like they used to back during your grandmother’s hay day.  While it might make you a little sad to see a China set for sale in parts, your feelings will turn to joy quickly when you see the very low prices.

Your China pieces will hold the brush trees so look for tiny pitchers and other small vessels, too, to function this way.

All the China featured in this blog project were gifted to me over the years from my late Grandmother and late Great Grandmother.  The holidays are a very sentimental time when we remember our loved ones, so it was really meaningful to reuse these family members’ former prized pieces.  Without this project, they would have stayed hidden away in a cabinet rather than proudly on display adding some sparkle to the season.

Step 3: Repurpose items as ornaments

Carefully add items to your brush trees to serve as ornaments and to add color to your creations.  Keeping with the reuse/repurpose focus, old buttons and small sequins were hot glued in place; you might add unused or mismatched jewelry items, too, to add some visual delight to your little trees.  Rather than a star on top, several of the trees got a pretty pearl on its top perch!

Step 4: Create an elegant vignette

Put your China pieces in place and add your little Christmas trees to each cup, pitcher or vessel.   Consider using the insides/stuffing of a Goodwill-found throw pillow to help hold your trees in place and to serve as snow for a wintery-looking layout.  For the table vignette, a red sequined dress became its sparkly foundation.

Next, make your decorations shine with small, battery-powered mini-lights.  They will add a warm glow to your setting and to your heart!

Thanks to my beloved late relatives for their presence in my past and their presents now which helped to create a lovely, elegant tone to my home.  Happy Holidays to you and yours!
