Cold winter DC days are for being cozy during these frigid temperatures.
That means layering clothing items, including leggings, scarves, and sweaters, to stay warm. You can shop for sweaters in a variety of stores, but my favorite spots are nonprofit thrift stores, especially Goodwill.
You can find a plethora of sweater materials like crochet, cotton, and even cashmere at the retail stores if you search enough. I have also found knit or sweater-like materials for pants as well.
As a weekly public transportation commuter, finding items to stay warm while traveling to and from the office.

Last week, I wore a warm and cozy outfit to the office, where the items were thrifted from local Greater Washington stores. I began with the sweater, which was new with tags from Anthropologie. The style was similar to a buttonless cardigan with pockets. I matched them with cream knit pants purchased from Goodwill. The pants are from Marled, which is also sold at Anthropologie. I layered the look with a denim shirt and platform boots to be extra comfortable throughout the day.

I am also discovering that some of the best items are in the men’s section. The materials used for men’s clothing are more sustainable than those used for women’s clothing. Finding cashmere sweaters has been a little hunt while I am out thrifting. Another tip is to shop off-season for items. People tend to donate or purge their closet with items from other seasons.
You can score sweaters at Goodwill for $8.49 each to stay cozy and warm!
Thank you Goodwill and Happy Winter!
