Outside of fashion, I have a deep passion for interior design. Understanding how and why certain furniture and fixtures work in the spaces they do brings me a lot of joy. Thrifting has been one of the ways that I have learned more about interior design, which sustainably fed my hunger to learn more. It has also taught me a lot about how to balance and fill a room. Before the pandemic, I felt too busy to really delve into fully decorating my home. However, since I have been able to thrift again, I have begun putting my passion into practice. Below are three things I have learned regarding décor from thrift stores.

Both of the paintings, while special, were not expensive and that is the magic of thrifting. It gives people access and price points that they can realistically partake in. If I had not gone to Goodwill, I would not found BIPOC art that simply spoke to me.

First, start inviting your male friends to thrift, so they can get comfortable. Help them learn to navigate the space and answer questions that that they have. This is important because for male thrifters, like anyone doing something for the first time, it can feel overwhelming until you get your footing.

Thrifting has become a past time for many. It has hit the social media waves of TikTok and has a thriving community. Many people think of thrifting as a sustainable ethic. However, a problematic situation is arising—thrift over-consumption. Over-consumption is negative for several reasons.

Preloved often means that an item of clothing or accessory was owned by someone else prior to being bought by another. Corporations and individuals both can sell preloved items, and engage in preloved culture respectively. Preloved as a concept is not bound to the context of a store but rather is connected to the concept of selling items to another than you no longer need or have utilization for.
