A joyful July 2024 to you, my fellow gifted thrifters and thrifty gifters!  Second month of Summer, Sivvan and Tamuz of 5784, Disability Pride and Ice Cream Month!  Month of the Fourth Of July, my fifteenth anniversary with my spouse, and NonBinary Day!

Nu, despite all the heat waves and other mishigas, I’ve managed to schlep to my local Goodwills three times this Spring and Summer.  And as always, I bought and saw lots of great items.  I’m very excited to tell you about all of it, so let’s get started.

On the first of my two visits to the Gaithersburg store, the bargains were so bright, I had to wear shades.  It was also super sunny that day.  I got a great dress, a fabulous peacock feather print romper, seven tops, two skirts, a skort (my first ever – and it was Lily Pullitzer, which I’ve been trying to thrift for years), three pieces of sleep/house wear, a scarf, two cosmetic pouches, some gifts for family, and some of DC Goodwill’s new reusable shopping bags (which replaced all of their plastic bags in May, hurrah).

When I returned to the Gaithersburg location a week later, the bargains were just as bright, but the weather was a little easier on the eyes. And speaking of the skies, I found a fantastic galaxy print dress!  And a mermaid-y one.  Plus a skirt, a skort, shorts, seven tops, a scarf, a crossbody purse that looks like a container of strawberry ice cream, a glass water bottle with a rubber casing, seashore-themed wall hooks, seashore themed holiday cards, seashore themed wall art, frames for art I already had, and more more gifts for family.

And just look at all the other mer-velous merch and other beachy bargains I saw over the course of my visits:

I went to the second Rockville location (the much newer and bigger of the two) with my spouse as part of my forty-eighth birthday celebration – and of course, I had to take a selfie with the wonderful wall.  I got three great dresses, a beautiful dressy cold shoulder top, a backpack with a dragon on it (I love dragons), two fancy dish towels – one with seashore creatures (so nice I’m going to make it wall art) and one with dogs, an avocado slicer that also cuts and pits, suction cups with hooks, a fancy computer mouse that lights up and cycles through a rainbow of colors, and a battery-powered seashore style lantern.  Also, TWO MERMAID TAILS (I have a mermaid/enby persona named Mercroft)!  And TWO MENORAHS (I collect them and do an annual social media show called Mycroft’s Menorah Mishigas)!  Too, my spouse found a lovely Buddha head pot with artificial succulents for their nightstand.

Here’s just one of the other shore things we were tempted by:

I know – my local Goodwills are Greatwills!  And not just offline, but also online, on their Shop Goodwill site.  We’ll be looking at lighthouse items there next month, because August is Lighthouse Month.
