I have been shopping at Goodwill for over twenty five years (before it was cool to say that you were a certified secondhand shopper). And even more recently I have had the pleasure of collaborating with Goodwill of Greater Washington for the last two years. My Personal Lifestyle Management and Style Concierge Service Firm MODAGE | Where Modern Meets Vintage (“MODAGE”) has been hosting seasonal secondhand fashion bus tours in which our fashion forward attendees (“Style Mavens”) enjoy a comfortable and relaxing chauffeured limousine bus ride to featured Goodwill retail stores located throughout the Washington Metropolitan area. The Style Mavens are privy to exclusive Goodwill shopping, games, discounts and stylish giveaways. Keep a look out for the next one!
Secondhand shopping is my therapy and I always walk away with new to you finds that spark conversations. I like that I have the ability to create individual looks that screams freedom of expression. It is all about having fun with fashion, especially while thrift store shopping! I am a firm believer that you do not have to break the bank to look great. Fashion distracts, style connects. I’m not a huge “on trend” shopper, but there have been a few key on trend pieces that I have purchased secondhand that has had a classic vibe. As a bonus, there is nothing like trying on a pair of worn distressed jeans that fit like a glove that complement an oversize sweater and chunky heeled boots while running errands on a crisp Fall afternoon.
My personal style continues to evolve; however, if I had to describe my style in six words, I would say Bohemian chic with a vintage flair. During the summer months, I usually gravitate towards flirty frocks, chunky heels, a floral accessory or two, embellished sandals, oversize hats, chic head wraps, palazzo pants, and cat-eye sunglasses. I’ve noticed that as my style matures, I’ve grown to have a deeper appreciation for my vintage glam that allows me to flaunt my femininity. As a bonus, remixing secondhand finds with ethnic elements scored while traveling abroad always seals the deal. Most recently, I snagged a silk Christian Dior polka dot print skirt while in Virginia and a vintage Diane von Furstenberg dress and Jimmy Choo sandals while secondhand shopping in Maryland.
I look forward to meeting you at the upcoming DC Goodwill Edited Summer Trunk Show and hope that you enjoy your fabulous curated finds. Sign-up here to attend the trunk show: http://goodwilltrunkshow.eventbrite.com
