To ensure a successful, impactful and easy organizing/donations gathering session at home, I like to keep the following with me. What’s missing from the list? What do you use when putting together donations to drop off at Goodwill?
- Reusable bag: For sorting and donating! I use reusable bags sometimes to store clothing donations. The Goodwill-branded ones make it easy for me to identify my donation bag.
- Checklist/journal: This is very handy if you like to keep track of what you keep and what you get rid of.
- Plastic bins: Use these for organizing. Donate items in these, too – your unwanted bins can be resold.
- Music: Make organizing fun by playing your favorite tunes!
- Detergent, eco-friendly cleaning products, lint remover: Clean, launder, and dust items before dropping them off. This will ensure that they can be resold. Also, remove pet hair and dander.
- Mending Supplies: Mend small flaws on clothing before donating.
- Tape: Use blue tape or another damage-free kind to bundle items that should be donated in a group. Rubber bands are handy as well!
- Clothing hangers: Use these to hang up items when organizing clothing. Do not donate items on hangers; they will be sorted and processed and then put on different hangers. The ones listed here are for you to use.
- Snacks: I get hungry when organizing!
- Permanent Marker: Use this to label items you are organizing at home and to label donations that may be hard to identify.
- Donation Box: Keep this in your closet to store and collect donations. When filled, bring it to Goodwill!
