“Did you get this at Goodwill?” I asked my mom as I was opening my Christmas presents.
She just smiled, and we both started laughing. I didn’t need to ask.
Of course, she got it at Goodwill … and, of course, I LOVE it!
These are the two beautiful blue bud vases she found at the new Sterling, Va. location that opened last year. They go perfectly with a big blue bowl I already had that looked a little lonely by itself on a vintage table I painted to match my decor.

And this is the sparkly cobalt blue glass globe thingy she also got me. Cobalt blue and sparkly? This is the kind of thing that if I had spotted it at Goodwill, I totally would have purchased it for myself.

Now I’m on the hunt for more blue glassware. I’ll add that to my 2025 Goodwill Thrift List.

I usually arrive at Goodwill wide open for adventure. To me, finding something completely unexpected and amazing — something I didn’t even know existed— is one of the best things about thrifting.
But this year I’m trying a new approach.
So many times I’ve come home with my treasures only to remember that I forgot to look for something that I specifically wanted or needed.
That’s where my 2025 Goodwill Thrift List comes in handy.
Whenever I think of something I want or need, I can simply add it to the list on my phone and remember to check it at the store before I finish shopping.
I’m the type of person who really enjoys crossing items off my to-do list. So when I found a pair of camo pants at the Hayfield, Va. Goodwill location last week, I was super-excited.
I’ve been wanting a pair of camo pants to wear with my work uniform for a long time. But I didn’t want to pay a lot of money for them. So I put them on my Goodwill Thrift List.
There they were on my first thrifting adventure of the new year!
And they fit me perfectly.
Now I have new camo pants for work and my first Goodwill Thrift List checkmark of the year.

While the list helps me focus, I’m still open to finding unexpected treasures. Here are two new sweaters I also found on my visit to Hayfield last week.

Thanks to Goodwill, my 2025 thrifting adventures are off to a great start!
