As a little girl, my grandparents had a variety of plants. My grandfather was a gardener whose backyard was adorned with flowers and bushes such as azaleas and peonies. He grew vegetables, such as collard greens and tomatoes, across the street from the house. My grandmother was more about indoor plants. She had African violets and philodendron plants all over the house.

I always wanted to grow beautiful plants both indoors and outdoors, but was unsuccessful for years. It was not until the pandemic that I was able to research plants that were easy to care for and would work well in my space.
My mother gifted me a peace lily. She told me that they are dramatic and can be hard to grow. However, I was able to maintain it and add many other houseplants over the years. Fast forward to 2025, my living room and bedroom are adorned with the same peace lily, monsteras, and a variety of other plants.

The plants sit on stands and a stop sign table. I have also added a few plant-inspired pieces of art that I thrifted at Goodwill. The latest piece of art was found at the New York Ave, DC location.
It features images of plants that are similar to those in my collection. It also reads “I Can’t Tonight, I Have Plants.” It is very true for me, as I am content to stay home and enjoy my space and plants. The cute sign was a steal for $2.99!
Always swing by the artwork section at your favorite Goodwill for a creative piece of art to add to your space!
